Seven Natural Wonders is an organization which was founded with the mission to protect and promote the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. This project was created in 2008 in response to the New 7 Wonders efforts to review and change the list of the Natural Wonders of the World. It was planned to research and create a new list based on facts to establish the new natural wonders of the world or you can say wonders of the modern world. The main focus of the organization was to run campaigns to add seven natural wonders of the world, one from each continent. The experts determined the winning wonders of the world on the bases of statistical data and traditional significance in the society, uniqueness and splendor. In 1997 Cable News Network also known as CNN put together the list of what their experts thought were the most amazing creations of the modern world of nature. Mount Everest is the highest peak in the World with a height of 29,029 feet or 8848 meters. The first Ascent was done by Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay on May 29, 1953. Mount Everest is also known as Chomolungma. This wonder of the world is located on the border of Tibet and Nepal. It had been ranked the tallest mountain in the world since half a billion century. Its majestic look has helped it to be counted as one of the 7 Wonders of the World.

The Grand Canyon is another most remarkable natural wonders of the world. Located in the state of Arizona, USA, its one of the deepest gorges on the planet with an average depth of about 1.6 km and an average width of the gorge (ravine) to be about 16 km.This Grand Canyon was carved over the past 6 million years by Colorado River passing through Colorado Plateau. The rocks of this huge and majestic canyon are about 250 million years old and some are even 2 billion years old which gives an idea of how old the Earth came into creation. As its so much spectacular, its visited by about 5 million people every year.

The Northern Lights which are also known as Aurora Borealis are one of its own kind of nature’s fireworks. The spectacular light show takes place in northern regions and can easily be seen in many parts of the world. This Northern light which is considered to be one of the most beautiful and artistic wonders of the world occurs when solar particles from sun collide with the gases in atmosphere. When there are many collisions an aurora is generated and light seems to dance across the sky. The height of lights is about 600 miles and that their altitude is about 60 miles and its indeed one of the most amazing things to watch.

The Harbor at Rio de Janerio was discovered by Portuguese explorers on January 1st, 1502. This amazing wonder of the world lies on the east coast of Brazil. It is actually a picturesque scene of towering and really oddly shaped huge mountains and bunch of beautiful beaches. It is also known as Guanabara Bay. While exploring the Harbor the explorers thought that they might have reached the mouth of a huge river. They named it Rio de Janeiro based on the date they found this place which means River of January. Landmarks include Corcivado Peak and Sugarloaf Mountain is a site where a gigantic statue of Jesus Christ is located. Indeed an amazing look view of nature.

The Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef system in the world. It is the world’s largest individual formation created by living sea organisms to protect themselves. The Great Barrier reef consists of over 900 islands and over 2900 separate reefs. Its truly called to be the most diverse ecosystems in the world. This amazing wonder of the world stretches about 1600 miles along the north eastern coast of Australia and covers an approximate area of 133,000 square miles. This Great Barrier reef coral system was accidentally discovered by James Cook when his ship ran onto one of the reefs and got struck.

Paricutin is the Volcano which erupted on February 20, 1943 in a cornfield, Mexico. It got the status to be one of the most amazing wonders of the world is due to the fact that its the youngest volcano erupted in the hemisphere. Another wonderful thing about this Paricutin volcano is that it erupted and achieved a height of about 3170 meters in mere nine years. Dionision Pulido was working in his cornfield when this volcano erupted and people of the area say that the speed of growth of the volcano was so fast that they could feel the difference in height when the wake up next morning.

Victoria Falls are really popular for its furious sound of water fall and earth shaking movements, it indeed deserves to be one of the 7 natural wonders of the world.Victoria Falls are the largest waterfall in the world. It got this status both in the height of its water fall and its width flowing in a single sheet with a length of about 1 mile and height of 360 feet. It is located on the border between Zimbabwe and Zambia. The Zambezi river is actually the source of this waterfall. Dr.David Livingstone named it Victoria Falls on the name of the queen at that time. The local people call it Mosi-oa-Tunya which means ” Smoke that Thunders”.
